Where does Mausritter exist?

Between Two Cairns recently released an episode reviewing Tiny Tables and around the 41 minute mark, they got stuck on the “human issue” that comes up anytime someone who doesn’t understand Mausritter talks about the setting:

“Where are the humans at? What's going on? Are humans in the modern age? Do they know that mice can do magic?”

I’m going to shift gears, and talk about video games for a minute

In an interview with Ralph Fulton, game director of the new Fable reboot, he made the clear distinction that this game was a fairytale not a fantasy game:

“I guess our interpretation of what that means is that fairytale and fantasy probably exist on opposite ends of a spectrum. I think we all know what fantasy is – it’s The Witcher, it’s Skyrim, it’s Lord of the Rings, it’s Game of Thrones. And I think tonally it’s quite grand, it’s sweeping, it’s geopolitical, it’s serious. You know, you can almost picture the color palette of fantasy. And then fairytale exists right at the opposite end of that spectrum. Fairytales are intimate, they’re small stories about regular people; they’re not grand and sweeping, they’re very personal and whimsical and ultimately, they deal with what happens when magic touches the lives of ordinary folks. And also they have this kind of moral component to them.”

SO WHERE DOES MAUSRITTER EXIST?

This is a very valid question with many valid but subjective answers, but if you asked me:

Mausritter exists in the same place as that imaginary guy who runs outside of car windows

When I’m at work I am a paraprofessional at an elementary school, and when I am at home I have my own elementary school aged child—so I’m CONSTANTLY around humans who do imagination play

Back during Mausritter Month I had this idea for a dungeon…

…Do you see where I’m going with this? Because if you do, I think you understand Mausritter

For those of you without a sense of whimsy, let me hold your hand as we walk down this imaginary elementary school hallway…

I wanted to make a modular funhouse dungeon, with each backpack being its own “one page dungeon” themed to the personality of individual children. Today is SHOW AND TELL and one kid brought a cursed Night At The Museum dvd that’s making all of the kids toys come to life!!!

Where are the students at? What's going on? Are the mice still in the medieval age? Do humans know that mice can do magic?

BAH! Those are fantasy questions! Remember, Mausritter is a fairytale. Just let the imaginary guy run alongside the car
